NZCT Gives Greenwood Archers Something to Aim For!

As we are unable to travel out of the region for competitions, having the targets upgraded will give the club more opportunities to hold competitions. This will encourage other archers to come to our club to compete, and my son can face more challenges and gain experience with competitions at home.

New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has granted $9,625 to Greenwood Archers for new weather-resistant, and easily repairable targets at their outdoor range in

Ngāmotu Domain.

Secretary/Treasurer Bob Lowe explains, "We urgently needed to upgrade our old target butts to continue offering target archery as a competitive sport and to stage regional events."

The new targets will allow Greenwood Archers to increase the number of archers shooting at once, enabling the club to hold larger tournaments, attract out-of-town competitors, and expand its junior programme. It will also provide the opportunity to hold recognised tournaments.

Kelly, mother of Caden, an archer, says, "As we are unable to travel out of the region for competitions, having the targets upgraded will give the club more opportunities to hold competitions. This will encourage other archers to come to our club to compete, and my son can face more challenges and gain experience with competitions at home."

Terry Mills, a club archer, shares, “As an archer shooting a compound bow, I’ve often been frustrated by my arrow going straight through the target into the wall behind and when I draw my arrows from the target the point can pull off during retrieval. I'm really grateful to NZCT for providing this upgrade to our targets, so these problems won't happen again.”

Barbara Scott, President, adds, “Getting ten operational targets will allow us to hold regional shoots in New Plymouth. Our archers, particularly Juniors, will greatly benefit from exposure to larger tournaments conditions and additional competition without the need to travel.”

NZCT’s GM of Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges, adds, “We're thrilled to help the Greenwood Archers with their wonderful ancient sport. Our grant wouldn’t be possible without the responsible gaming partnerships we share with our New Plymouth based venues.”
