While unglamorous, non-slip carpet makes a world of difference at CCS Disability Action Bay of Plenty, thanks to a grant for $1,100 from New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT).
National Manager of Marketing, Communications, & Fundraising, Mel Gamble, commented, “Through the support of NZCT, our organisation has been able to purchase and install non-slip carpet material around the side of the swimming pool at our premises. This flooring will reduce the chances of a user slipping, particularly youngsters or those with mobility issues. It will also mean that people using a wheelchair can move around the pool more easily. We’re delighted that this facility is now more accessible for people with disabilities.
“The pool facility is only one way in which support is provided for disabled people. Our organisation’s vision is that every disabled person can be included in and participate in the life of their family and community. We work within a disability rights framework that reflects everything we do. We partner with disabled people, their families and wider whānau to enable them to have control of their lives and positive and connective choices.”
CCS Disability Action is the largest pan-disability support and advocacy organisation in New Zealand with a long history of working in partnership with disabled people, families and whānau to provide dedicated and flexible support services.
