Disability Sport Auckland (DSA) has received a $16,923 New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) grant to support their mission of ensuring Aucklanders living with disability have access to quality opportunities to participate in sport, recreation and play.
CEO Yann Roux comments, "This grant allows us to continue creating amazing opportunities for everyone to shine, regardless of ability. The grant is a ray of hope for people with disabilities wanting to participate in sport!"
There is immense value in sports and recreation in terms of fostering physical health, mental well-being, and social connections, especially for those facing unique challenges due to disabilities.”
NZCT’s GM for Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges couldn’t agree more “Sport offers so many benefits to participants and people with disabilities must not miss out. NZCT is grateful to the fundraising partnership with hospitality venues across Auckland that made our grant possible.”
Roux continues “DSA’s facilitates access to a wide variety of sports and activities. In this way people with disabilities have the opportunity to discover their passions and reach their full potential. NZCT’s funding will enable DSA to enhance existing programmes, introduce new ones, and further resource the provision of adaptive equipment, specialised training, and advocacy for inclusive facilities.
Max, aspired to play Boccia but encountered hurdles due to his disability. Max explains "With DSA’s support, I've learned the game and now dream of a path to high-performance. I feel unstoppable now!"
Young adult Gabby sums up “when I participate in sport “it makes me feel empowered and included."
Roux concludes “We believe that having a disability should not relegate individuals to the sidelines. We’re excited to continue our journey of impact and transformation, one practice, one game, and one smile at a time.”
