Circotica Circus School Soars to New Heights!

"I've learned so many things at Circotica I never thought I'd be able to do as an adult, my confidence has increased greatly, and I can feel my strength building with each class I do,"
Emma Mackey - Student

New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has allocated $13,030 to Christchurch's not-for-profit Circotica Circus School to support the purchase and repair of essential equipment. This investment enables the school to expand its class offerings and ensure accessible circus programmes for students of all ages and abilities while maintaining affordable prices.

Chairperson Caitlin Penny says, "By investing in high-quality equipment, we can create a secure environment where participants are able to learn and practice their skills with confidence, while minimising the risk of injuries.’’

Instructor Calvin Preston adds, "The new gear will open up many more training options for our students, whether they have a fear of heights, or simply enjoy working on their balance more. High-quality equipment enables us to teach skills we haven't had in our space before."

Circotica has been an integral part of the Christchurch community since its establishment in 2016. The school's commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for individuals to explore a variety of circus disciplines has had a profound impact. "I've learned so many things at Circotica I never thought I'd be able to do as an adult, my confidence has increased greatly, and I can feel my strength building with each class I do," says student Emma Mackey.

NZCT’s GM Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges adds “NZCT wants everyone to enjoy the benefits of physical activity, but not everyone is attracted to traditional sport and physical activity options. Circotica provides a fun alternative. We’re delighted our responsible gaming fundraising partnerships with a number of Christchurch hospitality venues are helping Circotica to thrive."
