Peter Dale, Chairman
Peter is former Chief Executive of the Hillary Commission and New Zealand Golf. As Chairman of the NZCT Board, he is committed to representing the rights of venue operators to politicians and regulatory authorities. He has a keen interest in the role local government plays in supporting the community.

Alan Isaac, Trustee
Alan Isaac enjoys a variety of governance roles within a range of New Zealand businesses, from sporting bodies to commercial and Crown entities. With a strong background in risk minimisation and assurance, Allan is a former national chairman of KPMG, and is currently chair of the Fire Service's audit committee and the Ministry of Economic Development's audit and risk committee, and is a member of the Ministry of Social Development's audit committee. Alan is also chairman of NZ Cricket and a board member of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Rugby 2011 Ltd, Wakefield Health Ltd and Aka Investments Ltd.

David Pilkington, Trustee
David has extensive international management experience in the dairy industry as a Group Managing Director of NZ Milk Ltd; Group Managing Director - Global Operations, and General Manager Milk Powder Division for the Dairy Board; and Chief Executive of Milk Products Holdings (North America). He is also currently chairman of Prevar Ltd, Old Fashioned Foods Limited and Ruapehu Alpine Lifts; a director of Restaurant Brands Ltd, Douglas Pharmaceuticals, Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd, Zespri Group Ltd, Rangitira Limited and Port of Tauranga; and a member of the audit & risk management committee of Wellington City Council and Queen Margaret College,

Ian Wells, Trustee
Ian has had a long and active involvement with many sporting organisations and has served on local, regional and national sporting boards since 1968. He is a board member of Cricket Wellington, and a member of the Miramar Rangers Soccer Club and New Zealand Tennis. Ian has had executive roles with Wellington Newspapers Ltd and Independent Newspapers Ltd. As a member of the Newspaper Industry Association he is a strong advocate in the media world for NZCT and the gaming industry.

Lesley Murdoch, Trustee
Lesley is a broadcaster and veteran sports commentator, and has previously represented New Zealand in hockey and cricket. Lesley is also a past chair of NZCT's Canterbury regional advisory committee.

MANAGEMENT
Mike Knell, Chief Executive
Mike's expertise balances both the practical and theoretical needs of business. He spent 18 years in the New Zealand Fire Service, followed by more than a decade as a senior manager in the transport industry. Mike also has an MBA from Massey University. With his background, business acumen and client services skills, Mike is well placed to understand the communities and venue operators NZCT serves.

Rob Holden, General Manager Sales and Service
Rob's gaming and hospitality experience spans the past 25 years. As a venue operator with gaming machines he has first hand knowledge of the time, effort and challenges associated with being a venue operator. In 1998 Rob started Associated Gaming Services (AGS), a private company that managed the service and auditing of NZCT machines. In September 2006, NZCT purchased the assets of AGS and employed Rob as General Manager Sales and Service.

Mark Donaldson, Financial Controller
Mark, a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, was previously employed at Foodstuffs Wgtn Coop Society where he held the position of Accountant for Toops Wholesale Limited. In his five years there Mark was part of the Toops management team and also played a key role in the implementation of Foodstuffs new financial system. This background should allow him to further develop NZCT's financial processes going forward.

Rae Mazengarb, National Compliance and Regulation Manager
Rae is a qualified lawyer who has worked in a variety of assurance and compliance roles during her career. Before joining NZCT she spent four years as the New Zealand Law Society's chief operations officer. She also previously held the position of director of regulatory services for the same organisation. She has been involved in successfully managing change in a regulatory environment. Her strengths lie in law, management and communication. As part of NZCT's management team, Rae works closely with the CEO and our customers ensuring our organisation meets all statutory and legal obligations.

Tony Gill, National Grants Manager
Tony has held marketing and sponsorship positions with Trust Bank and Westpac and worked with community organisations such as CCS and Life Education Trust. He has served on the Board of Trustees of two schools, and is an active supporter of his children's rugby, cricket and netball teams. His background allows him to have a full understanding of the needs of both funding providers and, more importantly, NZCT's valuable grant applicants.

Sally Ann Hughes, Marketing Manager
Sally Ann has held marketing management positions across many industries including dairy, telecommunications, and the government sector. She has lectured in Marketing and assisted exporters into new markets. At NZCT she is responsible for branding, signage, communications, and market research.

REGIONAL MANAGERS
David Stones, Regional Manager Northern
David spent 13 years with DB Breweries and has hands-on experience as the owner/operator of several gaming venues. This gives David an excellent grounding for his role as Northern Regional Manager. As president of Taranaki HANZ since 2002, David is a strong advocate for NZCT's publicans - recognising that without their support, there would be no community grants scheme.

Gary Lawry, Regional Manager, Central
Gary joined the hospitality industry in 1992, and fully understands the needs and aspirations of NZCT's venue operators. Gary began in the industry as the manager of a number of pubs in the UK for the Morland Brewer Company, and joined the Wellington Licensing Trust on returning to New Zealand in 1996. Gary joined AGS (now owned by NZCT) in 1998 as an auditor, where he was able to consolidate his industry knowledge and gaming machine experience, and was appointed audit manager the following year. As a regional manager of the central region (with Darren Kerslake), Gary looks after the western and lower areas of the North Island.

Murray Straight, Divisional Manager, South Island
Murray has a solid background knowledge of the issues our venue operators face in their day to day operations as he spent six years at Dominion Breweries in numerous sales roles in Christchurch, concluding with two years as Otago's sales manager. Murray's employment history also includes time spent in the grocery and produce industries, with five years as Otago/Southland manager for Rattrays Wholesale Limited and seven years with Turners and Growers in Dunedin and Christchurch.

Darren Kerslake, Regional Manager, Central
Darren has 12 years experience in the hospitality industry, including other roles within NZCT, and extensive knowledge of venue operators' needs. As Regional Manager of the central region (with Gary Lawry), Darren looks after the east coast of the North Island.

Colin Dale, Northern Regional Advisory Committee Chairperson
Colin was Chief Executive of Manukau City for more than 20 years. He was also a Hillary Commission Sport, Fitness and Leisure Taskforce member and a Counties Manukau Strategic Co-ordination Group convenor, amongst his many other governance roles.

Heath Mills, Northern Regional Advisory Committee member
Former New Zealand cricketer and current Executive Manager of the New Zealand Professional Cricket Players Association, Heath has a strong interest in sport and is a qualified physical education teacher. Previous roles include Director of Sport at Mt Albert Grammar School in Auckland and former Education Manager at Auckland Rugby and the Blues.

Peter Goldsmith, Northern Regional Advisory Committee member
A former member of the NZ Maori All Blacks, rugby coach, teacher and sports administrator, Peter is currently a Papakura District Councillor and NZ Maori Rugby Board member. Peter has chaired several boards including Rosehill College, Manukau Cometz Netball Franchise, Ardmore Marist Rugby and Touch NZ.

Bernice Mene, Northern Regional Advisory Committee member
Former Silver Fern netballer with nearly 80 caps to her name, Bernice is also a languages teacher, sports writer and sports commentator. She works with the New Zealand Academy of Sport doing Athlete Career Education. In 2002 she was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Paula Browning, Northern Regional Advisory Committee member
As Sport Auckland's Business Manager for the past six years, Paula's job is to provide best-practice finance advice and support to regional and national sporting organisations. Before joining Sport Auckland, Paula held roles in the education and FMCG sectors. In her sporting life Paula has played hockey, netball, tennis and football and been a gymnast and swimmer.

Paul Matheson, Top of the South Regional Advisory Committee member
Former Mayor of Nelson, Director of the Port and Airport Company and National Chair of the Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs, Paul now provides advice and consultancy services to Nelson Cricket and several charitable clubs and organisations. He is an avid rugby supporter.

Bronwyn Monopoli, Top of the South Regional Advisory Committee member
A fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, Bronwyn runs an accounting business in Nelson. She is also a hardworking committee and board member of many community and national groups including Port Nelson Limited, the Visitor Information Network and the New Zealand International Arts Festival Trust.

Former Mayor of Marlborough and current Councillor for the Blenheim ward, Gerald is Executive Officer at the Marlborough Research Centre Trust. He is involved with many organisations and represented on several committees including the Cawthron Institute and Marlborough Community Hospice Trust.

Stephen Boock, Canterbury Regional Advisory Committee chairperson
Stephen played cricket for New Zealand from 1978 - 1989. He is passionate about and supports all sports. He loves the outdoors and New Zealand back country. Stephen is the owner of Northlands Pak'n Save in Christchurch.

The founding Director of Hellers, New Zealand's leading bacon, ham and sausage producer, Todd has a strong interest in rugby and enjoys cycling, golf and the outdoors.

Darryll has a long career in the travel sector, he now works as a consultant and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, a Director of the Canterbury Rugby Union, and a member of the Institute of Directors.

With a netball career spanning 14 years, Julie has played in three world championships and spent nine seasons competing for the National Bank Cup. As well as being an exceptional player, Julie is also a netball coach and the mother of a young family.

Gary Cookson, Bay of Plenty Regional Advisory Committee Chairperson
A retired businessman who spent his working life in the timber industry, Gary was also a notable rugby administrator, the inaugural Director of the Western Bay of Plenty Union and manager of the Bay of Plenty National Provincial side for a number of years. Gary is a keen participant in the thoroughbred racing industry as an owner and part-time breeder.

Trevor Maxwell MNZM, Bay of Plenty Regional Advisory Committee member
Deputy Mayor of Rotorua, Trevor is the city's longest serving District Councillor with more than 32 years to his credit. Tourism New Zealand appointed as Trevor Kaupapa Director in 2008, and he is currently Chairman of the Opera in the Paâ organising committee, Deputy Chairman of Toi Maori (New Zealand Maori Arts Board), and a member of the Rotorua Civic Arts Trust, Lakeside Concert Charitable Trust and the Rotorua Tourism Board. Former leader of award-winning cultural group, Ngati Rangiwewehi, he was also the Te Arawa representative on the Aotearoa Performing Arts Committee.

Ken Hingston, Bay of Plenty Regional Advisory Committee member
Born and raised in Rotorua, Ken is a former Maori Land Court Judge and currently a Judge on the High Courts of Nuie and Cook Islands.

Grant Scoones, Bay of Plenty Regional Advisory Committee member
After serving 12 years in the RNZAF, Grant went on to spend nearly 30 years working in sport management, including 10 years as Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Manager, three years as the CEO of the NZ Squash Racquets Association and 11 years as CEO of the Tauranga Golf Club. A skilled sailor, squash player and windsurfer, Grant also enjoys touring the country on his motorbike.

Neil Wolfe, Taranaki Regional Advisory Committee chairperson
Neil is a New Plymouth Boys High School rugby prodigy and former All Black. He has served on the Board of the New Zealand TAB, is the current President of the Taranaki Rugby Union and a New Plymouth City Councillor. Neil is also a dedicated rugby supporter, father of four and grandfather of eight grandchildren.

Howie Tamati, Taranaki Regional Advisory Committee member
Former Kiwi rugby league international, coach, City Councillor and television presenter, Howie is a well-known, highly-respected member of the community. He is still actively involved in rugby league at an administrative level and is the current CEO of Sport Taranaki, convenor of selectors for New Zealand Rugby League and Chairman of the New Zealand Maori Rugby League. Howie was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 1994 for services to the sport.

Jen Blyde, Taranaki Regional Advisory Committee member
Born and bred in Taranaki, Jen spent 18 years managing TSB Community Trust which distributes funds to the local community. Jen is the Taranaki Trustee for The Halberg Trust and is a current Sport Taranaki Board Member. She enjoys all sport but has a passion for equine sports - particularly show jumping.

Selwyn Metcalfe MNZM JP, Taranaki Regional Advisory Committee member
Real estate agent and Fellow of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, Selwyn is also a Trustee of the Taranaki Savings Bank Community Trust Board and the Taranaki Elite Athletes Foundation. He is the past President of Wrestling New Zealand and the Oceania Wrestling Committee. He is also a qualified international wrestling referee, having judged wrestling at four Commonwealth Games. He was on the Sydney Olympic Games Organising Committee overseeing wrestling.

Paul Elenio, Wellington Regional Advisory Committee chairperson
As General Manager of Fairfax Central Region, Paul is responsible for publishing three daily newspapers (including The Dominion Post) and 15 community newspapers. His newspaper industry career spans almost 37 years. While working as Sports Editor, Paul spent six years reporting on the All Blacks (including the 1981 Springbok tour). He has had many sporting assignments ranging from Wimbledon tennis to the New Zealand women's softball team's participation in the world championships in Canada.

Irene Van Dyk, Wellington Regional Advisory Committee member
South African-born Irene is the world's most capped international netball player. Having won numerous netball competitions (including silver and gold medals at the past two Netball World Championships), the 1.9m Goal Shoot also won the Halberg Award for New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year in 2003 and was nominated again in 2005.

Before becoming Sport Wellington's Sport Development Manager in 2007, Kevin spent 14 years as Executive Director of Wellington Tennis. Kevin is passionate about sport and leads a Sport Development Team committed to developing the capability and sustainability of sport throughout the greater Wellington region.

Jason Pine, Wellington Regional Advisory Committee member
As Operations Manager for The Radio Network in Wellington, Jason oversees seven radio stations including Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport. Jason hosts the all Sports Breakfast on Saturday mornings on Newstalk ZB (Wellington) and is the radio commentator for Wellington Phoenix home matches. A former national league football player, he has a strong interest in many sports.

As General Manager of the Chatham Islands Council, Owen has spent nearly 40 years working in Local Government working with several Southern authorities. Owen's interests are family, travel, horse racing and fitness.

A 'born and bred' Chatham Island descendant (Chatham Islander) , Denise has lived in the Chathams her life. Denise is currently employed with the Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust as Office Manager. Her interests are sport, gardening, cooking and reading.

Craig Emeny, Chatham Islands Regional Advisory Committee Member
Craig moved to the Chatham Islands from Taranaki in 1982. At that time he set up Air Chathams, an airline which has grown over the years and now flies people and cargo from the Chathams to Christchurch, Wellington, Napier and Auckland. Craig and his wife run the airline together. They have five children and are very involved in the school at Te One. They enjoy the Chathams' close and caring community. Craig is passionate about his family and his work. He also enjoys touch rugby.
