Whakatane Mountain Bike Club Gets Rolling

Whakatane Mountain Bike Club is pleased to announce a grant from NZCT for $9,646 to cover the cost of protective equipment and a bike trailer.

Founded in 2007, the Club is thriving and has recently experienced a huge surge in new members. Last year it went through a strategic planning process, with members’ and the wider communities' feedback sought on a range of topics, including improving the trail network, rider development opportunities, club events, and trips.

WMBC President Richard Hamer says, “What stood out most, was that what our current and potential community of riders wanted most was to get around the regions together, share skills, share knowledge and pass on their passion for riding. With local access to a minibus organised, the missing link was a trailer for the bikes and with the generous support of NZCT, that link is now securely forged.”

“The purpose-built MTB trailer purchased from Full Cycle Bikes Whakatane has now been branded and in addition to helping us get our bikes and equipment around New Zealand, it will also promote our club when we are on the move. The trailer will be an absolutely awesome asset for years to come, ensuring that an increasing number of young members and families without access to vehicles can take part,” Hamer concludes.
