NZCT has been a long time supporter of the New Zealand Olympic Ambassador programme which sees New Zealand Olympic Ambassadors visit schools to inspire young people to live the Olympic Values through sport. One of the key components of the programme is Olympic Day, which this year was held in schools between 19-23rd October.
Olympic Day involved 30 schools across the country with more than 3,000 young New Zealanders receiving inspiration messages from our Olympians. The images shown here (thanks to Getty Images) are of Auckland's Freyberg School children enjoying their Olympic Day Celebrations.
Movin’ to Rio is a series of eight video lessons featuring New Zealand Olympic Ambassadors discussing themes of strength, endurance, speed and accuracy in their sports. The Ambassadors had fun learning a dance move with the children that relates to the theme and has movements that relevant in their sport.
The dance lesson is surrounded by resources for teachers to use in class. These focus on promoting the Olympic Values of Excellence, Respect and Friendship. The production of this resource would not have been possible without NZCT's support of the New Zealand Olympic Ambassador Programme.
The children at Freyberg enjoyed participating in an Olympic Day Run before coming together to hear from Melissa Ingram – who shared her Olympic Story and then presented diplomas to all who completed the run and also special awards recognising Excellence, Respect and Friendship.
