HOOKED ON CRICKET
Get ready for summer!
Professional cricketers throughout the country will be encouraging young New Zealanders to be active and participate in cricket over the coming weeks. The NZCT Hooked on Cricket programme is now into its 7th year and has been extremely successful in promoting cricket in these schools.
Hooked on Cricket aims at promoting cricket within communities that are not traditionally strong in cricket and provides children from these areas the opportunity to get involved with cricket. Over the next few weeks the NZCT Hooked on Cricket programme will be delivered in 64 schools and will include over 1400 year 6 and 7 students throughout New Zealand.
The schools invited to participate this year are again from South Dunedin, Christchurch, Porirua, Rotorua, Waitara and South Auckland. The NZCPA are proud to promote cricket in these areas and are delighted that the Hooked on Cricket programme and the Scholarships offered are a catalyst to teams and individuals participating in regular cricket throughout the rest of the season.
This year NZCPA Event Coordinator Ewen Thompson is responsible for delivering the Hooked on Cricket programme in each of the six regions throughout New Zealand. Ewen has taken over from Kerry Walmsley who has done a wonderful job in shaping the programme over the past six years.
